Asian Area Studies

To train students to have a global perspective, as approaches to take for viewing the Asia of the 21st century, the Graduate School of Asian Area Studies sets "Modernization of Asia" and "Revival of Traditional Asian Norms" as the central research themes and develops a deep insight helpful in "viewing Asia from inside Asia." With emphasis placed on disciplines, we established six majors for the programs, namely politics, economics, society, history, culture, and art, so that students conduct research explored multi-dimensionally in their respective fields of discipline in order to deepen their understanding of issues common to various parts of Asia. Furthermore, we strengthen empirical research based on fieldwork, with the aim to lead it to a deeper understanding of this region.
