Public Policy Program

Program Overview

The Graduate Schools of Daito Bunka University have been providing the " Public This program is designed for not only current public servants wishing to improve their policy making skills, but also graduates wishing to become public servants, personnel in various organizations including private companies who are interested in public policy, people aiming to contribute to society, international students who choose Japanese public policy as their research subject, and so on. This program's curriculum is formed in such a manner that always students to deepen their studies according to their areas of interest while learning the basic courses of economics and the basic courses of political science together.
This program is distinctive in that while being enrolled in either the Economics Master's Program of the Graduate School of Economics or the Political Science Master's Program of the Graduate School of Law,and taking basic courses related to the public policy studies included in their Master's Program, students take basic courses in the other Master's Program at the same time.

Program Requirements

Economics Program

Students must complete 30 or more credits. For these credits, students are required to complete at least eight credits for two courses among the courses (basic) for the Economics Program, at least eight credits for two courses among the courses (basic) for the Political Science Program, and eight credits for seminar courses taught by instructing professors. (Introductory courses are not mandatory.)

Political Science

Students must complete 32 or more credits. For these credits, students are required to complete at least eight credits for two courses among the courses (basic) for the Political Science Program, at least eight credits for two courses among the courses (basic) for the Economics Program, and eight credits for seminar courses taught by instructing professors. (Introductory courses are not mandatory.)

Political Science Program Special Lecture on Political Science/Special Lecture on Political Process/Special Lecture on Public Administration/Special Lecture on Public Policy/Special Lecture on Current Local Politics

Master's Thesis or Research Paper

To complete the Public Policy Program, students must write either a master's thesis or research paper. A research paper is a summary of results of empirical research conducted on specific research questions.

Degree Conferment

A student who has created a master's degree and passed the final examination

  • will be granted either "Master's Degree (Economics)" or "Master's Degree (Public Policy Studies) as desired if the student is enrolled in the Economics Program.
  • A student enrolled in the Political Science Program will be granted either "Master's Degree (Political Science)" or "Master's Degree (Public Policy Studies) as desired.

A student who has written a research paper for the degree will be granted "Master's Degree (Public Policy Studies) regardless of the Program the student is enrolled in.
