In-Service Teacher One-Year Plan

Plan Overview

This plan allows students to finish a master's program and earn a master's degree and Senshuu-menkyo jo (a specialized teacher's license that requires a master's degree) by completing courses held in the evening and during long holidays as well as courses held during regular school periods and hours, and receive research guidance.
This plan is designed for those currently working in elementary, junior high, and high schools all over Japan as a full-time teacher. A student who intends to apply for admission to this plan shall prepare in advance a research subject that can be a master's thesis theme, based on his/her education practice and achievements such as research papers written so far.

Admission Requirements

Students who meet all the requirements for their desired programs can be admitted.

Japanese Literature and Chinese Studies

  1. Applicants must be officially employed full-time teachers working in national, public, or private elementary, junior high, or high schools all over Japan.
  2. Temporarily employed teachers or part-time instructors are not included.
  3. Applicants must have at least three years of experience as a full-time teacher.
  4. Applicants must be able to suspend their jobs in the schools where they are currently working and concentrate on their studies for one year after admission.

Education Studies

  1. Applicants must be officially employed full-time teachers working in national, public, or private elementary, junior high, or high schools all over Japan.Temporarily employed teachers or part-time instructors are not included.
  2. Applicants must have at least five years of experience as a full-time teacher.
  3. Applicants must be able to suspend their jobs in the schools where they are currently working and concentrate on their studies for one year after admission.
  4. Applicants must have a first class elementary, junior high, or high school teacher’s license.

Chinese Language and Culture, English Studies, and Japanese Language and Culture

  1. Applicants must be officially employed full-time teachers working in national, public, or private junior high or high schools, technical colleges, or colleges all over Japan. Temporarily employed teachers or part-time instructors are not included.
  2. Applicants must have a work experience as a full-time teacher.
  3. Applicants must be able to suspend their jobs in the schools where they are currently working and concentrate on their studies for one year after admission.

Program Requirements

Japanese Literature and Chinese Studies

  1. Students must complete 32 or more credits, to include 20 or more credits in lecture courses and 12 or more credits in seminar courses.
  2. Students must submit a master's thesis, and pass the thesis evaluation and final examination.

Education Studies

  1. Students must complete 30 or more credits, to include 18 or more credits in lecture courses and 12 or more credits in seminar courses.
  2. Students must submit a master's thesis, and pass the thesis evaluation and final examination.

Chinese Language and Culture, English Studies, and Japanese Language and Culture

  1. Students must complete 32 credits, to include 16 or more credits in compulsory courses, 8 or more credits in practice courses, and 8 or more credits in common courses.
  2. Students must submit a master's thesis, and pass the thesis evaluation and final examination.

Plan Completion Period

The standard completion period for this plan is one year. Students can extend the period up to two years if so approved by the Graduate School Committee. It is also possible to complete the plan after one year and a half (dated September 30).

After Admission

After admission, students suspend their jobs in the schools where they are currently working to concentrate on their studies. While attending courses and receive research guidance provided in regular form, they also take courses and receive research guidance provided in the evening and during other specific hours or periods.
If students are allowed to continue the plan after the standard completion period, in the second year, they will return to their schools, and attend the rest of the required courses and receive research guidance in the Graduate Schools of Daito Bunka University.

Campus

All courses are held in Daito Bunka University Itabashi Campus.

Entrance Examinations

Entrance examinations are held twice a year: October for the autumn semester, and February for the spring semester.
