the body

The exchange students and their Japanese tutors had an annual study tour arranged by the International Center on Feb. 2-3, 2015.

Their destination, Hakone and Izu (Shizuoka prefecture) are placed in the southern area of Tokyo, and popular spots for tourists.

On the 1st day, they visited Hakone, which is famous for hot spring. At Owaku-dani, they ate “Kuro- tamago (the black egg)”, which is boiled in hot spring water. It is said that one egg will lengthen our life span for 7 years! (How many eggs did they eat…?)
In the afternoon, they got on board a pirate ship at Ashi-Lake. The weather was so fine, and they were fascinated by the majestic shape of Mt. Fuji.
At the hotel they took an Onsen bath which had the view of the ocean and enjoyed Karaoke party after dinner.

On the 2nd day, they moved to Izu, where is the stage of the novel “Izu no Odoriko” by Yasunari Kawabata who won the Nobel prize for Literature in 1968.
First, they saw Tsurushi-bina dolls decoration. The dolls are for “Hinamatsuri” (the girl’s festival) on March 3rd, on which we pray for girls’ future happiness.
After lunch, they had their main event; the strawberry picking. They could pick and eat sweet strawberries as much as they liked!

The trip was short, but all of them enjoyed and got many precious memories.
