Introduction to the Research Programs

Aiming to train human resources with a global perspective, the graduate school fosters probing observational skills to see Asia from inside Asia with research centering on two themes, “The Modernization of Asia” and “The Revival of Traditional Asian Norms,” as an opening that captures Asia of the 21st century. The programs emphasize disciplines and are divided into six courses: politics,
economics, society, history, culture, and art. Students conduct research in their respective fields from various perspectives and deepen their understanding of issues that are common to various parts of Asia. With the aim of an even deeper understanding of this region, research is reinforced with empirical research with fieldwork as its base.
