Full range of seminars

First year students start with the Basic Seminar on Japanese Literature. Students then gradually increase their level of expertise by progressing through the Seminar on Japanese Literature I in their second year and the Seminar on Japanese Literature II in their third and fourth years.

Small classes

The maximum capacity for seminars is about 15 students. Since even the Basic Seminar on Japanese Literature taken in the first year is conducted in seminar format (only 15 students), students enjoy highly personalized instruction.

Unique subject lessons

This department takes a broad view of literature, offering classes on such literary themes as magic, monsters, and other components of folktales, movies, manga, and animation.
