Hello. My name is George Wallace. I’m from England. My hometown is Plymouth, a city in the southwest of England. I came to Japan in 1987. I have been teaching at Daito Bunka University for thirty years.

教えている科目とその内容(What do you teach?)

I teach British Culture, Film Studies, and in my seminar class “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.

先生の研究テーマ(What are you researching?)

I wrote my Master’s thesis on Lewis Carroll and Miyazawa Kenji. I enjoy researching the life and work of Beatrix Potter.

週末は何をしていますか?(What do you do on the weekend?)

I am interested in art and photography. On the weekend I often go to galleries and museums. I also like cycling and going for walks in the woodland near my home.

My favourite book is “The Hound of the Baskervilles” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is a Sherlock Holmes story about a family haunted by a ghostly dog. The story takes place on Dartmoor in the southwest of England near the town where I was born.

Beatrix Potter was a remarkable woman. She never gave up. She did so much despite the problems she faced. She wanted to become a scientist but was told that it was a job only men could do. She wanted to publish small books for children, but publishers were not interested. She persevered and succeeded. How did she manage it? That is what I am keen to find out in my research.

When you are eighteen, it is difficult to know what to do with your life. At university you have four years to find out. Enjoy the journey of discovery. Make friends. Fall in love. And maybe do some studying, too, along the way . . .
