ジョージ・ウォレス　George Wallace
	Hello! My name is George Wallace. I'm from Plymouth (a city in the south west of England). I came to Japan in 1987 and have been teaching at Daito Bunka University for more than twelve years.

■ 教えている科目とその内容（What do you teach?）

I teach a class on British Culture(イギリス文化論), English Composition(英作文), and in my seminar class, we read Lewis Caroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"（不思議な国のアリス） and "Through the Looking-Glass"（鏡の国のアリス）.


■ 先生の研究テーマ（What are you researching?）

I wrote my Master's thesis on Lewis Carroll and Miyazawa Kenji（宮沢賢治）.
Since then I have been translating some of Kenji's lesser known stories into English.
One day I hope to publish them as a book.


■ 週末は何をしていますか？（What do you do on the weekend?）

On Saturday afternoons I play futsal with friends. I've been playing football on and off since I was 4 years old. On Sundays I go to my local sports club and walk up and down in the pool. It helps my tired legs recover from football on Saturday.




■ 好きな言葉はなんでしょう？

“Follow your bliss. Find where it is, and don’t be afraid to follow it.” (words by Joseph Campbell). 自分にとって何が大切なのかを見つけて、それを追求せよう！


■ 専門のおもしろさを語ってください！

I have been reading two books again and again for a long long time. One is “The Hound of the Baskervilles” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the other is “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. The former is a Sherlock Holmes story about a family haunted by a hound (a big dog). The latter is a story about a girl who runs after a rabbit and falls down a hole. Reading a story you already know is wonderful. It is like meeting an old friend. Each time you meet them, you get to know them better.

When you are eighteen, you are perhaps not sure what you want to do with your life. At university you have four years to find out. Enjoy the journey of discovery. Make friends. Fall in love. And maybe do some studying, too, along the way . . .

ジョージ先生は、イギリス出身ですが、日本語がとても上手で日本のこともたくさん知っているので、英語ができなくても安心です。
