Graduate School of Business Administration Thesis Examination Evaluation Criteria

Master's program (Master's degree)

Master's thesis is examined and assessed by an examination committee consisting of one examiner and two or more sub-examiners. They are comprehensively assessed in terms of not only content, but also on the processes up to thesis completion. Comprehensive evaluation is performed using six grades: S, A, B, C, D, and E. Theses assigned C or a higher grade pass the examination.
For thesis examination, the following evaluation items are set.

  1. The research theme has been selected appropriately.
  2. Earlier research is treated appropriately.
  3. The theme is presented clearly and consistently.
  4. The content demonstrates the novelty of the thesis.
  5. The language and presentation are appropriate.
  6. The materials and literature used are treated appropriately.

Doctor's program (Doctor's degree)

Doctoral theses are examined and assessed by an examination committee consisting of one examiner and two or more sub-examiners. The examination committee evaluates submitted theses by setting the evaluation items below and judging the pass/fail of them unanimously. (For doctor's degree thesis submission, there are requirements for application.)

  1. The research theme has been selected appropriately, and the novelty of the thesis is demonstrated.
  2. Earlier research has been surveyed appropriately.
  3. The theme is presented clearly and consistently.
  4. The content demonstrates the novelty of the thesis.
  5. The thesis can academically contribute to academic circles.
  6. The obtained conclusion has a possibility of providing intellectual contribution to society.
  7. The language and presentation are appropriate.
  8. The materials and literature used are treated appropriately.
