Dissertation Evaluation Criteria in the Graduate School of Literature of Daito Bunka University

Based on the Diploma Policy, the Graduate School of Literature of Daito Bunka University comprehensively evaluates dissertations in accordance with the criteria below. However, any criteria other than these mentioned below that is necessary for an individual Program shall be determined by the Program.

Master's Degree Dissertation Evaluation Criteria

  1. Appropriateness of the research theme
    Based on a clear awareness of the problem, the author explains the significance and necessity of the research project.
  2. Validity of the research methods
    The author uses appropriate research methods in light of the research objective. The author uses appropriate materials correctly.
  3. Appropriateness of the handling of research history
    The author extensively reads earlier research in the relevant field, and based on proper understanding of it, places the research project in the research trend of the relevant field.
  4. Clearness and consistency of the theme
    The author presents the theme clearly and consistently from analysis and discussion to conclusions. The author draws conclusions that correspond to the research objective.
  5. Appropriateness of the structure and expressions
    The author structures the thesis systematically as an academic paper, and writes it using appropriate language and presentation.
  6. Academic and social contribution
    The thesis shows uniqueness and importance in academic terms, and also has the possibility of responding to social demands.

Doctor's Degree Dissertation Evaluation Criteria

  1. Appropriateness of the research theme

    The author presents the theme clearly and consistently from analysis and discussion to conclusions. The author draws conclusions corresponding to the research objective.
  5. Appropriateness of the structure and expressions
    The author structures the thesis systematically as an academic thesis, and writes it using appropriate language and presentation.
  6. Academic and social contribution
    From an academic-level or interdisciplinary viewpoint, the thesis shows an adequate level of uniqueness and importance, and also has the possibility of responding to social demands.
