Law Master's Program

Educational and Research Purposes

The Law Master's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law aims to develop individuals who gain a profound and minute knowledge of law and have capabilities to conduct research in a broad perspective and highly specialized vocational skills.

Diploma Policy (Principle of Degree Conferment)

For the Law Master's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law, students who have completed the required number of credits and whose submitted theses have been examined and found acceptable for the degree in accordance with the internal rules related to the program are judged to be equipped with the following capabilities and awarded a master's degree (Law).

  1. Capability to acquire high-level expert knowledge in the fields of law based on undergraduate education.
  2. Intellectual capability to solve various problems in society.
  3. Research capabilities based on a broad perspective or specialized vocational skills.

Curriculum Policy (Principle of Curriculum Formation and Implementation)

For the Law Master's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law, the curriculum is formed according to the following principles so that students admitted based on the Admission Policy can acquire expert knowledge and problem-solving ability held as an expert professional.

  1. Courses that allow students to further develop the legal knowledge acquired in undergraduate courses and acquire high-level expert knowledge to prepare for examinations such as civil service examinations are arranged.
  2. Courses that allow students to analyze the knowledge and experience gained as a professional, consumer, or citizen from a legal viewpoint are arranged.
  3. Courses that allow international students to comprehensively study the legal system of Japan and legal systems of other countries are arranged.

Admission Policy (Principle of Student Admission)

Based on the Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy, the Law Master's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law admits the following individuals, without limiting applicants to those who wish to become researchers.

  1. Those who intend to further develop the legal knowledge acquired in undergraduate courses and endeavor to take qualifying examinations.
  2. Those who intend to jurisprudentially deepen the knowledge and experience gained as professionals in such organizations as private companies and government offices.
  3. Those who intend to jurisprudentially deepen the knowledge and experience gained as consumers in everyday life.
  4. Those who intend to jurisprudentially deepen the knowledge and experience gained as citizens in local communities.
  5. Those who study in Japan as international students and intend to learn laws in various countries including Japan.

Law Doctor's Program

Law Doctor's Program

The Law Doctor's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law aims to develop individuals who can further deepen their expertise based on the results of the research projects conducted in the master's program and actively work in society as independent researchers of law or as individuals engaged in high-level expertise-required jobs.

Diploma Policy (Principle of Degree Conferment)

For the Law Doctor's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law, students who have completed the required number of credits and whose submitted doctor's theses have been examined and found acceptable for the degree in accordance with the internal rules related to the program are judged to be equipped with the following capabilities and awarded a doctor's degree (Law).

  1. Capability to acquire a high-level expert knowledge of a specific area in the fields of law based on the results of the research conducted in the master's program.
  2. Capability to conduct research activities in a specialized area as an independent researcher in the fields of law.
  3. Capability to actively work as an individual engaged in an expertise-required job equipped with high-level expert knowledge and problem-solving ability in the fields of law.

Curriculum Policy (Principle of Curriculum Formation and Implementation)

For the Law Doctor's Program offered by the Graduate School of Law, the curriculum is formed according to the following principles so that students admitted based on the Admission Policy can acquire expert knowledge and problem-solving ability held as an expert professional.

  1. Courses that allow students to further develop the legal knowledge acquired in the master's program and acquire high-level expert knowledge to become individuals engaged in expertise-required jobs are arranged.
  2. Courses that allow students to analyze the knowledge and experience gained as professionals, consumers, or citizens from a legal viewpoint and acquire high-level problem-solving ability are arranged.
  3. Courses that allow international students to comprehensively learn the legal system of Japan and legal systems of other countries, and acquire higher-level knowledge in specialized fields are arranged.

  2. Those who intend to further develop the legal knowledge acquired in the master's program and aim to become individuals engaged in specialized jobs.
  3. Those who intend to jurisprudentially deepen the knowledge and experience gained as consumers in everyday life in addition to the legal knowledge acquired in the master's program.
  4. Those who intend to jurisprudentially deepen the knowledge and experience gained as citizens in local communities in addition to the legal knowledge acquired in the master's program.
  5. Those who study in Japan as international students and intend to acquire a higher-level knowledge of laws in various countries including Japan.
