Mission of Education and Research and Basic Policies (Three Policies)

Master's Programs, Graduate School of Law

Educational and Research Purposes

The Master's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law aim to develop individuals who gain a deeper scholarly knowledge of law and political science, implement research based on a broad perspective, acquire highly specialized vocational skills, and actively contribute to the cohabitation of different cultures in a world that is increasingly globalizing.

Diploma Policy (Principle of Degree Conferment)

For the Master's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law, students who have completed the required number of credits and whose submitted theses have been examined and found acceptable for the degree in accordance with the internal rules related to the programs are judged to be equipped with the following capabilities and awarded a master's degree (Law) or (Political Science).

  1. Capability to use high-level expert knowledge in the fields of law and political science.
  2. Capability to collect and analyze materials and information, and then identify problems related to law and political science.
  3. Capability to develop a deep insight into society and a sense of justice through the study of law and political science and solve problems in society based on them.
  4. Capability to deepen research in a broad perspective based on high-level expertise and applied skills held as a specialist in the fields of law and political science.

Curriculum Policy (Principle of Curriculum Formation and Implementation)

For the Master's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law, with the Diploma Policy in mind, to develop individuals who have capabilities held as a researcher and can use expert knowledge held as a high-level professional, the curriculum is formed according to the following principles.

  1. For both Programs, a menu and curriculum are provided that respond to the needs of learners. Graduate students shall take courses of the program they major in and courses in fields related and adjacent to that program.
  2. The Law Program holds courses covering processes from studying each specialized field as an academic discipline up to using it to prepare for qualifying examinations. Whereas the Political Science Program opens courses ranging from courses focusing on local communities or local politics up to courses allowing students to learn politics on a global level.

Admission Policy (Principle of Student Admission)

Based on the Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy, the Master's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law seek applicants who have the following academic skills and motivations.

  1. Those who have basic academic skills adequate for learning law or political science.
  2. Those who have a strong interest in various problems in society.
  3. Those who wish to proceed directly on to or apply for admission to our graduate school by following the admission policies defined separately by the Law Program and the Political Science Program.

Doctor's Program, Graduate School of Law

Educational and Research Purposes

The Doctor's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law aim to develop individuals who wish to be researchers of law or political science or have capabilities to be engaged in career fields that absolutely require a high-level expert knowledge of law or political science based on the results of the research projects conducted in the master's programs and who can actively contribute to the cohabitation of different cultures.

Diploma Policy (Principle of Degree Conferment)

For the Doctor's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law, students who have completed the required number of credits and whose submitted theses have been examined and found acceptable for the degree in accordance with the internal rules related to the programs are judged to be equipped with the following capabilities and awarded a doctor's degree (Law) or (Political Science).

  1. Capability to acquire and apply a high-level expert knowledge of law and political science based on the results of the research projects conducted in the master's programs.
  2. Capability to determine a research topic on one's own initiative and systematically implement research from a unique viewpoint.
  3. Capability to create a doctor's thesis from the research results in the fields of law and political science, and implement research as an independent researcher who meets various needs of society.
  4. Capability to acquire high-level expert knowledge in the fields of law and political science and educate, as a teacher and with professional skills, students interested in various problems who study in institutions of higher education.

Curriculum Policy (Principle of Curriculum Formation and Implementation)

For the Doctor's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law, based on the Diploma Policy, to develop individuals who have capabilities held as a researcher and can acquire and apply expert knowledge held as a high-level professional, the curriculum is formed according to the following principles.

  1. Research guidance courses and other courses are systematically arranged.
  2. Research guidance courses and other courses are systematically arranged.
  3. In addition to disseminating their own research activities to society by presenting theses in academic journals such as "Daito Hosei Ronshu (Daito Graduate Review on Law and Political Science)" and reporting in academic circles, students create a doctor's thesis under the supervision of the instructing staff to summarize their research activities.

Admission Policy (Principle of Student Admission)

Based on the Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy, the Doctor's Programs offered by the Graduate School of Law seek applicants who have the following academic skills and motivations.

  1. Those who have basic academic skills adequate for learning law or political science.
  2. Those who are motivated to conduct research with a clearer awareness while keeping in mind the existing level of research in each specialized field.
  3. Those who wish to proceed directly on to or apply for admission to our graduate school by following the admission policies defined by the Law Program and the Political Science Program each.
