2. 自国・文化について/About My Country and Culture

Canada is a very interesting place that offers a lot of diversity. From the people, the cultural events, the religions, the languages and the food. Canada is the land of diversity. Unfortunately, Canada invested more so in automobiles than in public transport. In the major cities you can find and use them but to travel outside the big cities you need a car, which I think is a shame as Canada’s nature is beautiful especially if you like winter sights.

3. 母国の大学について/About My Home University

My home university is situated in the middle of Quebec City with many buses that connect to it, so it’s one of the few places easily accessible without a car. But if you like online classes like me, my university offers a lot of those so you can have an entire semester where you don’t have to go to school except for exams. This comfort is convenient but after experiencing school life in Japan the school life is a very important aspect of my appreciation here. I think that the school life at my school and at Daito are pretty similar, but Daito probably offers more opportunities to meet students through sports classes or the Global Studies class that has become one of my favorites. I think you can easily make friends at my school, but you might have to be a bit more extraverted and approach people.

4. 日本留学を決めた理由/Why I Chose to Study in Japan

Studying in Japan has been a dream of mine for a while. Having discovered anime in High School I saw a lot of anime about school life in Japan. Now most of them are obvious exaggerations but I always thought it looked very fun. This interest in anime and manga made me want to learn Japanese. I also like to study history so I thought if my Japanese gets better, I can learn Japan’s history in Japanese which would be interesting. I also like Japanese culture a lot and I think there is no better way to learn a culture than by learning it’s language. Learning the language would also help me make friends with Japanese people which I think are some of the kindest people. Being a big fan of Japanese food, this was also a good reason on why I wanted to come here.

5. 大東文化大学の良いところやお気に入りなところ/Good or Favorite Things of DBU

My favorite thing about studying at Daito has been the Global Studies class. I think Japanese students are a bit shy about approaching foreign students and it’s also hard for us to approach Japanese people as we can’t be sure of who wants to become friends with foreigners and who just wants to do their classes unbothered. Therefore, the Global Studies class which has us interact with Japanese student as been a great way to use Japanese and learn about Japan from other students. The student life has been a bit hard to adapt to at first. My home university usually focusses more so on longer homework with a lot of time to do them, sometimes the entire semester. At Daito however, It’s usually small homework of a page or two everyday. This was hard at first as I felt I had no time to do any hobbies, but I grew into it, and it really helped me improve my Japanese fast. The free gym is also something I have been appreciating a lot as I wanted to get back at it and looking at gym prices in Japan it’s a lot more expensive than in Canada. The school gym has therefore been very convenient even though the schedule can be a bit annoying.

6. 大東生へのメッセージ/Messages for Daito Bunka students

I’ve truly appreciated interacting with the few students who came to talk with me. However, I wish more of you could have talked with me and become friends.

7. 未来の留学生へメッセージ/Messages for future international students

Daito and Japan are a very convenient place to live. Be ready to make some mistakes in Japanese or in going places, keep an open mind, be patient and be ready to learn Japanese at a pace which is nowhere close to our home university classes.

7. 大東の先生へメッセージ/Messages for professors and teachers at DBU

Thank you to the teachers for always being patient and kind and taking the time to go over material I was missing or misunderstood.
