第６回となる今回の留学生レポートリレーは、イタリアの学生からのメッセージをお届けします。

Italy is located in Europe, and it is a really beautiful country. Its history is well known all over the world and its territory is full of landmarks and wonderful views. We love eating and preparing food, which is considered a crucial part of our culture. We like hanging out with friends while eating something and during holidays we organize dinners with our family and friends. Each city celebrates its saint and one of the most important periods during the year is Christmas. Moreover, throughout the year, there are several festivals to celebrate traditions or about some specific dishes, such as chestnuts, truffles and pistachios. We tend to live freely, taking out time to complete tasks without feeling too stressed. We enjoy our free time doing things we like and during summer everybody goes to the beach. During that time, cities become empty and it is as if Italy itself was on holiday for some weeks, showing the importance of resting and spending time with friends and family. 

University of Florence is located in different parts of the city, since some faculties need to be near the hospital (Medicine School) or near Law Court (Law School). My faculty is related to Humanities; therefore it is located in the city center, which is the place where it is possible to find many works of art and stunning architecture. In the city center, there are also other majors and master courses. I am currently attending a bachelor’s degree course in Foreign Languages, and walking all around the city, I can come across tourists and foreign people, and it helps me a lot to exercise my language skills. Our cafeteria is well organized and near the university; we usually go there to eat and have fun together. Our professors are natives, so it is possible to learn languages in the best way possible. Since we can choose some of the courses we want to take, we are able to study what we like and we have plenty of time to hang out with our friends in courtyards and cafes, and it is really nice.

Since one of the languages I study in Florence is Japanese, I thought that this experience would have been perfect to deepen my knowledge of Japanese culture and language, while having conversations with natives. Studying Japanese literature, I am also keen on Japanese culture and its masterpieces, so coming to Japan allowed me to see how people live and to really experience the true Japanese lifestyle. Studying abroad, my aim was to improve my speaking skills, being more natural and confident, while also training grammar and expanding my vocabulary.  

I love spending time with people coming from all over the world, since it gives me insights into diverse cultures. Lessons are well structured, and our teachers are qualified and eager to teach us. I get to speak a lot each day, and since my afternoons are free, I can do my homework but also visit Saitama and Tokyo. Everyone is lively and outgoing, so it is easy to talk and have fun. Japanese students are always ready to help us when we are in need, and this means a lot. I also love that we can choose among several cultural experiences and meetings, which are the best way to meet friends and to experience Japanese life. Finally, Higashimatsuyama Campus is new, beautiful and easily reachable from our dormy by using public transport, which is convenient and punctual.

Thank you very much for your support and for having shared your culture! It is really fun to spend time with you and get to learn new things. I hope that we will meet again in the future!
