English conversation

In this class the majority of the class time will be spent in discussion of topics that students have chosen beforehand, and those student generated / student selected topics will be discussed first by working in pairs and /or small groups. After the pairs or small groups have completed their discussion, we will finish the discussion with the whole group’s opinions, summaries and conclusions. 

Depending on the interest generated by a single topic, a 90-minute class may consist of one, two or three topics. For example, if the discussions continue for one-third of the 90 minutes, two or three topics could be covered; if discussions of a single topic last for half of the class time, two topics could be covered. 

To allow for flexibility, we will have to create a “bank” of topics and replenish the bank every two or three weeks as needed. I will also hand out well-known short-stories that can be used for topics if the “bank” proves insufficient for any class session. The short-stories will only serve as a default in the case of a lack of topics to cover.
